Left wing protester being carried away by police in Prenzlauer Berg, Berlin

Although not quite as intense as previous year, this May 1st saw all the traditional signs of unrest in Berlin. According to local media, 7370 police officers were dispatched to maintain order. Of those 98 were injured, a significantly smaller number than previous year. Neonazis marched in a traditionally working class and left wing neighbourhood Prenzlauer Berg while others tried to prevent this from happening. Thousands of police were mobilized to keep the parties apart. The police operation was success in that no major clashes occurred.
